Dear Parents/Guardians:
As a follow-up to the urgent letter, I sent out moments ago, the student that made the threat is
home with her father and the troopers are there. The student claims she was only joking with a
friend in a private messaging chat group. The student will clearly be disciplined and there will be
legal ramifications regarding law enforcement. At this time, we have been cleared to open all three
of our campus schools to conduct business as usual.
As I stated in the previous letter, we take every threat seriously until we can prove that it is not a
credible threat and that is what we just did. We would like to thank our Special Patrol Officers, the
troopers that were immediately on scene, the FBI Hotline that notified us when they saw the
snapchat post, and the student’s parent who was extremely cooperative with us when we notified
him.
Parents and guardians, please use this as yet another opportunity to have a conversation with your
children about the use of social media because when they jokingly post things online, it is not
perceived as a joke by law enforcement and it creates needless concern and frustration for
students, staff, and the greater community. We thank you for your patience in allowing us to
follow our safety protocols that have ultimately allowed law enforcement to deem this as a non-
credible threat. As I said, the student will be facing severe disciplinary consequences.
Sincerely,
Thomas J. Colabufo
Superintendent
