Chirello Advertising Produces Attorney Training Video For Onondaga County Bar Assn.

Chirello Advertising recently completed the development and production of a new Onondaga County Bar Association (OCBA) training video for volunteer attorneys defending low-income tenants facing eviction on a typical day in city court, said Steve Chirello, agency owner.

The production, with the assistance of Notion Pictures, Syracuse, was taped in its entirety in the Syracuse Federal Building in the court of the Hon. George H. Lowe, federal magistrate judge for the United States District Court for the Northern District of NY. Students from Syracuse University’s College of Law portrayed evicted tenants and attorneys with OCBA’s Volunteer Lawyer Project (VLP) represented tenants or landlords in the illustrative scenarios.  “We are extremely grateful to Judge Lowe for his time and support to enable this project to be completed, and to the VLP attorneys and SU Law students who comprised our cast,” Chirello said.

“Textbooks cannot convey the fine art of client interviewing, negotiations with angry landlords or their attorneys, and the diplomacy needed to secure a reasonable disposition from the judge,” said Neil M. Gingold, Esq., OCBA president. “ Volunteer attorneys who are new to landlord-tenant practice often quickly become aware that the representation of low income tenants requires more than the knowledge of real property law.

“This DVD realistically presents four separate cases that portray the most typical issues raised by non-payment of rents and failure of tenants to vacate rental property following lease termination. Anyone wishing more information on this DVD is encouraged to call OCBA at (315) 471-2667.”
