OSWEGO COUNTY – According to the Oswego County Health Department, as of 3 p.m., there have been 16 additional cases of novel coronavirus (COVID-19) since yesterday.

The cumulative reported number is 839 cases across the county and of those, 766 have recovered and five have died.

SUNY Oswego reported three new cases since yesterday.

“COVID-19 continues to spread in communities across our county,” said Oswego County Public Health Director Jiancheng Huang. “The disease pattern is changing and what we are seeing now are increased cases in households, families and small groups. This means that the virus is spreading through community transmission.”

Some of the positive cases reported recently were found to be related to small gatherings around Halloween.

“Although the parties were small, most not more than 10 people, these attendees work and attend schools in the community,” Huang said. “Contact tracing done after the positive COVID-19 test was reported identified dozens of people exposed to the party-goers, impacting schools and businesses in the county.”

The Oswego County Health Department notified the Mexico Academy and Central School District today, November 5, that a student at its high school has tested positive for COVID-19 and as a result Mexico High School will move to fully virtual instruction for the next two weeks.

Today’s statistics are below:

Oswego County: (as of 3 p.m.) Note, the total number of positive cases is cumulative since March and the number of recoveries and deaths are of those numbers. SUNY Oswego cases are included in the county numbers, however, the county tracks only those living in Oswego County. That means that students who chose to leave and go back to their home county and test positive there will be included on the college’s dashboard, but not the county’s. Their positive result would be reported to their home county, not here.
