OSWEGO COUNTY – According to the Oswego County Health Department, as of 3 p.m., there have been a total of 19 additional cases of novel coronavirus (COVID-19) this week.

  • Wednesday: 1 new case
  • Thursday: 4 new cases
  • Friday: 6 new cases
  • Saturday: 5 new cases
  • Sunday: 2 new cases
  • Monday: 1 new case
  • Today: no new cases

“The last time the County had a zero daily count was September 30 of last year,” said Oswego County Public Health Director Jiancheng Huang. “Currently the seven-day accumulated daily counts are at the level of mid-August last year. These statistics indicate that vaccine is working in the community.”

He added, “The County’s vaccination rate among those aged 65 years and older is three points above the state average while the rate among those aged 15 years and older is seven points below the state average. This means there are some pockets in our communities that still have lower than usual vaccine coverage rates. We encourage residents who are eligible for the vaccine to get vaccinated. They are widely available now.”

The Health Department continues to work with local schools to hold vaccination clinics across the county. Many of them are open to the public. Visit the department’s COVID-19 vaccine page for details. Go to https://health.oswegocounty.com/ and click on the link for “Local Information About the COVID-19 Vaccination.” All Oswego County COVID-19 vaccination clinic registration links are posted there.

The Pfizer vaccine is the only vaccine approved for those aged 12 and above right now. The Moderna and Janssen/Johnson & Johnson vaccines are both only approved for those aged 18 and above. Notes: The total number of positive cases in Oswego County is cumulative since March 2020 and the number of recoveries and deaths are of those numbers. SUNY Oswego cases are included in the county numbers, however, the county tracks only those living in Oswego County. That means that students who chose to leave and go back to their home county and test positive there will be included on the college’s dashboard, but not the county’s. Their positive result would be reported to their home county, not here.

The first two cases in Oswego County were confirmed March 22, 2020.
