A Fulton man will wait in jail while his robbery case winds through Onondaga County’s court system.
Rhys Marks, 52, of 120 Division St., Fulton, was denied bail Tuesday by Onondaga County Court Judge Anthony Aloi.
Marks is accused of robbery, weapons possession, resisting arrest and other crimes.
Police say that on June 19, he used a knife to force employees and patrons of the Two Sisters Hair Salon on Molloy Rd. to go to a back room. He was wearing a bandanna over his face. Marks grabbed purses and drove away from the salon.
A Sheriff’s Deputy tried to pull Marks over for a traffic violation, but he sped away. Deputies tried to set out devices to puncture a car’s tired, but Sheriff Kevin Walsh said at the time that Marks drove his car at the deputies. He was eventually stopped on 7th North Street and arrested when his SUV lost control while trying to avoid another vehicle.
Sheriff Walsh said at the time that the vehicle Marks was driving had been stolen in Fulton. Everything taken from the hair salon was found in the vehicle.
Onondaga County’s inmate lookup indicates Marks also faces charges of burglary, criminal mischief and criminal impersonation from the Fulton Police Department.
Marks has been in and out of state prison seven times since 1975, according to the state Department of Correctional Services. His most recent prison term ended in parole in January, 2008, after serving 5 1/2 years of a 7 year sentence for robbery and grand larceny. He held up three banks, including one in Fulton, by claiming he had a bomb. At his arraignment a month ago, he admitted having been arrested 48 times, with 11 convictions.
