Submitted by the Fulton City School District

Students at Granby Elementary School were treated to a special visit by award-winning author Cynthia DeFelice. She shared her journey to becoming an author with the students at the school including how inspiration for writing books would often come from her own life and adventures. Author of 27 books, DeFelice has proven herself quite an accomplished author and a very popular one at Granby Elementary.
DeFelice told the story of Old Granny and the Bean Thief to students in grades K-2 and talked about the writing process and cover illustrations to the older students in grades 3-6. She explained to the students that as the author, she has little or no creative say in what illustration graces the cover of her books and showed examples of book covers to students to emphasize her point.
Oswego County BOCES Regional Arts-In-Education service offers the author visit program to assist schools in booking and organizing author’s visits. For information about this service, contact Marsha Wheeler at Oswego County BOCES at 963-4249.
