State and local police late Thursday morning announced they’re arresting 20 people for either running or selling drugs for a Rochester-based cocaine ring. 15 of the 20 live in Oswego County.
Police from various agencies gathered in Syracuse at the State Attorney General’s regional office to announce the arrests. They were joined by Attorney General Andrew Cuomo, who participated from Albany via speakerphone.
The 15 are charged with a felony count of conspiracy. Officials alleged they were sellers for the ring. They said they also seized $35,000 worth of cocaine.
The investigation covered nearly a year, beginning last June and ending with today’s roundup.
Police used wiretaps and surveillance to track the group.
Cuomo vowed a continued fight against drugs. “It’s a plague, it’s spiraling and it’s getting worse,” he said.
Our Nicole Reome was at the news conference and will have a full report.
