Catholic Charities Nearing Deadline For Holiday Food Basket Requests

FULTON, NY – With the holidays fast approaching, the Emergency Assistance Program at Catholic Charities of Oswego County has announced that it is rapidly reaching its cut off point for accepting applications for Thanksgiving and Christmas food baskets.

“We have been accepting applications for more than a week now and we have received a tremendous amount of requests so far,” said program coordinator Judy Egan.

Thanksgiving and Christmas baskets are complete with a turkey and all the trimmings.

In addition, Christmas baskets also include gifts for the children through the “Let’s Give For a Kid” program.

“We will continue accepting applications until we have exhausted our availability of baskets. I encourage families interested in receiving a basket this year to stop in and fill out an application as soon as possible,” said Egan.

Those interested must apply in person, Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. at Catholic Charities food pantry, 365 W. First St., Fulton.

To apply for a food basket you must reside in the Fulton area, provide Social Security cards for everyone in the household and a recent piece of mail, with name and address, postmarked within the past 30 days.

Egan indicated that with strong demand for baskets this year there are plenty of opportunities to “Adopt A Family.”

“Each year several individuals and businesses come forward to help meet the demand by adopting a family,” said Egan. “They exemplify the essence of the Christmas spirit by providing food and presents for an entire family. Their generosity helps to bring smiles to many faces on Christmas morning.”
