OSWEGO, NY – The Veterans’ Stage on West Linear Park in downtown Oswego will host the first in a series of concerts this summer as the Greater Oswego-Fulton Chamber of Commerce, in collaboration with the city of Oswego, sponsors the West Linear Park Summer Concert Series.

Following the postponement of the June 17 concert, the Anthony Joseph Swingtet will kick off the 2008 West Linear Park Summer Concert Series with a performance at 7 p.m. on July 1 at the Veterans’ Stage. Joseph, clarinet and vocals, and Joe Ferlo on guitar.Due to inclement weather that caused the postponement of the June 17 concert the  concert series will officially get under way July 1 with the smooth jazz sounds of the Anthony Joseph Swingtet.

The local group is popular among jazz enthusiasts who appreciate the refreshing new energy that they bring to various classic jazz standards and ballads that have stood the test of time.

The group provides the listener with a ‘swingin’ sound that is smooth, sweet, and in the groove. Usually performing as a trio, the group has been described as providing a ‘chamber jazz’ music setting, creating a pleasant atmosphere that makes it easy for the listener to enjoy the music as much as the band enjoys performing for them.

Featuring primary members Anthony J. Joseph of Oswego, band leader, on clarinet and vocals; Joe Ferlo of Rome on guitar; and Matt Vacanti of Liverpool on acoustic bass, the group’s program includes selections that were made popular by some of the most famous American jazz composers and performers such as George Gershwin, Benny Goodman, Harold Arlen, Hoagy Carmichael, Duke Ellington, and Syracuse native Jimmy Van Heusen.

The Anthony Joseph Swingtet will perform from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Veterans’ Stage on West Linear Park.

The concert series continues with performances by local favorites, the Cortini Brothers Jazz Band on July 15, and Halfway to Nowhere on Aug. 19.

All concerts will be from 7 – 9 p.m. at the Veterans’ Stage on West Linear Park.
