Fulton Board of Education Approves Resolution For District $4.4M Capital Projects

Recently, the Fulton City School District Board of Education approved a resolution to bring capital improvement projects, totaling $4.4 million, to voters in a Feb.4, 2014 referendum vote, said William Lynch, superintendent of schools. The projects would use state building aid to complete a number of upgrades and repairs.

“ If this is approved in February we will be able to complete part of the project in summer 2014 and the balance in summer 2015. Potentially ninety-eight percent is state aidable,” Lynch said. “ Specifically, these projects would include a majority of the roof replacements at Lanigan Elementary and Granby Elementary schools, gym floor replacement at Lanigan Elementary, completion of the athletic complex storage building, and district wide classroom door lock replacements. Replacing the floor, roof and locks with state aid allows us to make these improvements now and save our district taxpayers the expense of having to include it as part of future school budget without the benefit of state aid.”

At Granby Elementary, upgrades include roof replacement, ventilation improvements in the gymnasium and walkway and roadway resurfacing.  At Lanigan Elementary, there would also be roof replacement and, in addition, a new gymnasium floor to replace the 1974 synthetic floor.  District wide, there would be replacements of door locks to enhance security, which would allow locking of doors from inside the classroom. Lastly, the completion of the athletic complex storage building that has concrete and electrical already in place would be finished.

All components of the project will need the approval of the New York State Education Dept. Details of the propose projects will be available on the district’s website (www.fulton.cnyric.org), in each school building, through local presentations, and at a public hearing scheduled for Wed., Jan. 29, 6:30 p.m., Lanigan Elementary Media Center.
