FULTON – The Fulton Central School District Board of Education held a meeting last night, April 14, when the board discussed updates to the district since schools closed one month ago.
“We’ve been reacting to this fluid situation in a very positive way,” said FCSD Superintendent Brian Pulvino.
Pulvino said at this time, the schools are closed until April 29, but Governor Andrew Cuomo has been assessing the situation with two week implements. He said they are watching closely and waiting for that guidance.
In compliance with Cuomo’s recent executive order for all employers to provide masks to employees who interact with the public, Pulvino said the district’s employees who are still needed to work in-person have been given masks and gloves, including the 15 meal distribution sites.
Executive Director of Instruction and Assessment Elizabeth Conners gave an update on the district’s continuity of learning experiences, of which she said the work is messy, but the district is working through it together.
The district has been using Google Classroom for school work, students’ instruments for music classes are being delivered, and over 1,000 Chromebooks have been delivered. State exams, now including Regents exams, have been cancelled. More information can be found here.
“Students still need to stay engaged in their coursework, because in order to be exempt from the Regents, they need to earn the course credit,” Conners said.
She said if the district has not been able to contact a student, they will involve an agency to help and will do a welfare check if needed.
In discussing the budget, Pulvino said there will be no budget or election votes prior to June 1.
The rest of the agenda and documents from the meeting’s reports can be found here.
