FULTON – Tensions were high at the final city budget vote, with a very visible presence of the City Police for security. Many people wanted to speak regarding the vote. Several were denied because they had already spoken at past budget hearings. Even though the Mayor had stated in the past that if the document (The Budget) is changed, then everyone can speak again. The Mayor was absent due to medical leave.
At the beginning of the meeting, the tax increase was set at 14.98% and at a rate of $3.0667 per $ 1,000. After several motions from each councilor, it was reduced to 11.06% and a rate of $2.27 per $ 1,000.
The first vote failed, Council President Avery moved for an Executive session, after which there was another vote passing the 2026 General Budget.
