Fulton’s Common Council, in an otherwise typically brief session, paid a lengthy homage Tuesday to Fulton’s championship Little League team.

The Fulton Senior League All-Stars, a team of 15 and 16 year old boys, made it all the way to 3rd place in the state during this summer’s tournament in Newburgh, completing a three-year arc that has seen the team grow from district champions into a team that made the state tournament and then into a team that came within a game of competing for the state title.

With most of the team’s members and coaches in attendance, Alderman Bob Weston sung the group’s praises. He noted that the league, which was founded just 8 years ago, greatly improved the Kiwanis Kidhaven baseball fields that children have played on for generations. “It’s a first class field,” he said, wearing a Fulton T-shirt in the team’s honor, with a tie.

“These guys are the all-stars,” said one of their coaches. “They’re the best of the best.”

John Florek, who heads the league, said the team looks forward to next year. It will lose just four of its 12 members. Next year “looks promising,” he said. missing or outdated ad config
