Fulton Man Arrested In Attempted Murder Probe

FULTON, NY – Michael R. Watkins, 26, of 63 N. Third St., Fulton, was arrested today (Feb. 26), following an investigation by the City of Fulton Police Department.

In the morning hours of Feb. 26, Fulton Police were dispatched to the area of 404 Erie St. in the city of Fulton for a report of a harassment in progress involving a gun.

Prior to arrival units learned that one subject on scene had been shot.

Upon arrival, police found a 35-year-old man with a gunshot wound to the back.

This subject was transported to University Hospital, Syracuse, for treatment.

Through interviews police were able to quickly identify the alleged shooter as Watkins.

After a lengthy manhunt and with assistance from the New York State Police, Watkins was located inside a residence on State Route 104 in Martville.

There Watkins was taken into custody without incident.

A loaded 12-gauge sawed-off shotgun and a loaded .380 cal. Lorcin semi-automatic handgun were recovered during the investigation.

Watkins has been charged with: second-degree attempted murder (B felony), first-degree burglary (B felony), second-degree criminal possession of a weapon (C felony) and first-degree criminal use of a firearm (B felony).

Watkins is currently being held at the City of Fulton Police Department awaiting arraignment.
