FULTON – On July 3, Fulton resident John W. McEachen competed in the 2017 USA-Taekwondo National Championships, which were held at the Cobo Center in Detroit, Michigan. He won his two sparring matches in the 40-49 year – 68 kg Black Belt sparring division with scores of 18-8 and 13-8, and won a gold medal.

He divides his training time between workouts with Master Pryor’s Taekwondo America in Oswego, practicing with the SUNY Oswego Track team, and lifting weights in his garage gym.
Also a competitive runner, he finished 32nd overall and 1st in his age group (45-49) at the 5km “Nate Race” on June 10 in Canastota during the Boxing Hall of Fame induction weekend, with a time of 21:40.
He also competed on the track at the 2017 USA-Track and Field Niagara Regional Championships, which were held on June 24 at Penfield High School, winning his division in the 400m, 200m, and 100m.
