OSWEGO, NY – Harborfest is looking for talented individuals who would like to be active participants in this year’s festival.  Ed Proto, Harborfest Park Manager Committee Chair, has announced that Harborfest is seeking individuals to serve as volunteer park managers or assistant park managers during Harborfest 2008.

Park managers help with various duties ranging from setting up the venues and assisting vendors with their sites to managing the flow of the venue throughout the festival.

Park managers help with keeping the festival running smoothly, overseeing the volunteers assigned for their area, assisting vendors during set up and general festival operations.

Park managers are needed for both day shifts and night shifts at Harborfest venues such as Breitbeck Park, the Children’s Stage, the Historic Maritime District, River Walk East, East Park and the Rock Stage on East Second Street.

While past management experience is helpful it is not mandatory as training is provided.

“Park management volunteers receive training from our staff as well as previous park managers,” said Proto. “Park managers will learn about the operations of their assigned park through informational meetings.”

According to Harborfest board president, Kim Cloonan, “Being a park manager allows our volunteers to hone their leadership skills and gain valuable experience that has proven beneficial in both their professional and personal lives. Plus, it’s fun to interact with the other volunteers, the entertainers and the many park visitors!”

“It’s a great way to see old friends and neighbors, have some fun and listen to some excellent music,” added Harborfest board member, John Scardella. “Our volunteers gain a new appreciation for what it takes to put on a major festival. They enjoy being a part of Harborfest and find satisfaction in knowing that they helping their community.”

Oswego’s 21st annual Harborfest celebration will be held July 24 – 27, with the Entergy Fireworks Spectacular over the Oswego harbor set for July 26.

Individuals interested in learning more about volunteering for park management positions during Harborfest are urged to call 343-6858 or stop by the Harborfest offices at the Roy C. McCrobie Building, 41 Lake St.
