Hastings Man Arrested after Shooting at Police

HASTINGS, NY – At approximately 4:10 pm Sunday, the New York State Police and Oswego County Sheriff’s Department responded to 63 County Route 32 in Hastings for the report of a suicidal subject.

Upon their arrival, a shot was fired from the residence.

Daniel L. Taylor, age 47, was seen at several different  windows of the residence brandishing a long gun, police said.

Shortly after 5 p.m., Taylor allegedly pointed the weapon out of a second floor window at a trooper and conservation officer who were manning a post behind the residence.

The trooper discharged one shotgun round at Taylor, striking him in the right hand and causing him to drop the weapon.

Taylor then surrendered.

Taylor was transported to University Hospital in Syracuse and upon his release will be charged with Menacing a Police Officer and Reckless Endangerment.

The state police were assisted at the scene by the Oswego County Sheriffs Department, NYS Department of Environmental Conservation, Central Square Police Department and SOVAC Ambulance.
