High School Jazz Band To Perform at Memorial Day Salute

FULTON, NY – Fulton’s G. Ray Bodley High School Jazz Band is scheduled to perform at the 32nd Annual Fulton Memorial Day Salute on May 24 at 5 p.m.

The Jazz Ensemble is made up of members of G. Ray Bodley High School and led by Terry Caviness, the high school band director.

The group meets every other day during school as an academic class.

The Jazz Ensemble placed 4th at Musicfest, the Orlando National Band Competition.

The Jazz Ensemble has competed in regional competition in Boston, Orlando, Washington, and around Central New York.

They placed first in their class and were cited as best Jazz Ensemble at the festival in Boston.

“The Jazz Ensemble tries to learn from professional musicians by inviting guest artists to perform with them. Local jazz musicians Dr. John Coggiola, Joe Riposo, Pat Carney, Joe Carello and Larry Luttinger have been soloists or clinicians with the ensemble. These artists offered their advice and mentoring to our jazz musicians in clinics and rehearsals,” Caviness said.

The Jazz Ensemble performs music from the swing, be bop, and big band eras and will perform all types of jazz music during their performance at the Memorial Day
Salute.
