Police: Wrong-Way Driver Nearly Hits Oncoming Police Car

Police arrested a Phoenix man early Sunday morning for driving in the wrong lane on Route 481.

The Oswego County Sheriff’s Department says Michael S. McCandless, 23, of 339 Main St., Phoenix, crossed from the southbound lane to the northbound lane at about 4:15 a.m. Sunday.  Police say he nearly hit a police car head on.

McCandless has been charged with DWI, aggravated DWI, and a couple of vehicle and traffic counts.

Volney Town Justice Patricia Kerfien sent McCandless to the county lockup on bail of $500 cash or $1000 bond.  He is due to return to Volney Town Court tonight. missing or outdated ad config
