Public Invited To Free Day Of Family Fun at Annual Parent University

FULTON, NY – Fulton City School District officials invite district families to a day of free family fun at Parent University to be held Saturday (April 1) from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. at G. Ray Bodley High School located at 6 William Gillard Drive.

The event began three years ago as a means to bridge relations between home, the community, and the school district to overall benefit the educational experience of all FCSD students.

“Its really about bringing our families and community partners together with our school district staff to learn, explore topics that are important to families, and to also showcase what our students in our schools are doing in an effort to really make parents partners in that learning experience for students,” said Geri Geitner, director of student support services for the district.

The event is entirely free and will provide a full day of fun, learning, and opportunities.

Similar to last year, transportation is available upon reservation and supervised activities for children ages 4-12 are available throughout the event.

Breakfast, lunch, and snacks will be provided to those in attendance, and parents can take advantage of opportunities to register students for UPK and Kindergarten, physicals and immunizations by appointment, a community resource fair, roundtable discussions with members of the board of education and the opportunity to see showcased student work and performances.

Door prizes will be returning at this year’s event with the addition of a school picnic celebration awarded to the school with the most families in attendance.

School officials are hopeful that attendance will continue growing as has in years past.

“We are trying to be responsive to the feedback we get, so there will be shorter sessions with more opportunities. Also this year, we have some sessions that are oriented for families so parents and children can attend together which is something new that we’ve added this year,” Geitner said.

The interactive sessions available throughout the day include safe social media, career readiness, resilient children, financial planning, stress reduction, make and take meals, virtual field trips, graduation pathways, navigating CPSE/CSE, family art, community recreation, keeping children safe, transition to adulthood, and CPR.

Anyone interested in reserving transportation for the event can call 315-593-5916 and anyone interested in scheduling an appointment for physicals and immunizations can call 315-593-5440 ext. 3400.

Everyone interested in attending is encouraged to register online at FultonCSD.org or call 315-593-5916.
