Patty Ritchie (R-Heuvelton) took the oath of office minutes after midnight on New Year’s Day and became Oswego County’s representative in the State Senate.
Ritchie, the St. Lawrence County Clerk, narrowly beat incumbent Democrat Darrel Aubertine to claim the seat, part of an influx of Republicans to the Senate that helped the party reclaim control of the chamber.
Ritchie’s district covers all of Oswego County as well as parts of Jefferson and St. Lawrence counties.
A news release from Ritchie’s office reported the details of her oath-taking ceremony:
The oath was administered by acting St. Lawrence County Clerk Mary Lou Rupp.
As Senator Ritchie’s husband, Thomas, held the family’s four generation Bible, Mrs. Ritchie pledged to a group of relatives, friends and supporters who had gathered at the Phoenix on the Bay that she would work hard for the people of the 48th Senate District, comprising St. Lawrence, Jefferson and Oswego Counties.
