FULTON – Today, November 1, Fulton City School District Superintendent Brian Pulvino sent out the following letter, announcing that 8th grade Green Team students and staff at Fulton Junior High School will be transitioning to remote learning/work for two weeks.

In the announcement, Pulvino said the district was informed that one of the Junior High School students had tested positive for COVID-19. The student attends the school in-person on Thursdays and Fridays (BB), and was in attendance on Thursday, October 29.

Pulvino said there was no known exposure to 8th grade Green Team students who attend in-person on Tuesdays and Wednesdays (AA), or to the other junior high students. The 8th grade Green Team students, both AA and BB, will all be transitioning to remote through November 13. All other junior high students will continue in-person instruction.

Sixth grade students, who have been in their own two-day remote learning period due to potential COVID-19 exposure, are scheduled to return to the school this Tuesday.

*Correction: a previous mistake had said 6th grade had a two-week remote learning period. It has been corrected to say two-day.

The full letter can be viewed below:

Dear FCSD Families and Staff:

This morning we were informed that a student at Fulton Junior High School tested positive for COVID-19. The student attends on Thursdays and Fridays (BB days) and was last in school on Thursday, October 29.

We are working closely with the Oswego County Health Department to assist them with contact tracing. Any student or staff member known to have had contact with this individual will be contacted by FCSD administrators and the Oswego County Health Department. We strongly encourage all families and staff to cooperate fully with contact tracing efforts so that exposure and potential spread of the virus can be contained.

Out of an abundance of caution, we are transitioning the eighth grade Green Team students who attend Fulton Junior High School, and all eighth grade Green Team staff assigned to Fulton Junior High School to remote learning and work through Friday, November 13.

Although there was no known exposure to eighth grade Green Team students who attend on Tuesdays and Wednesdays (AA days), the 8 Green Team teachers and staff had contact with the student, so all 8 Green students will learn remotely during this time period.

Because of our cohort model, which keeps students learning together in small groups and limits exposure to others, there was no known exposure for any other junior high students. Student who are not on the 8 Green Team will continue to attend in person at this time. Sixth grade students were learning remotely during the period of potential exposure, so they can still return to school in person beginning Tuesday, November 3, as previously communicated. Any changes to this plan will be communicated as they occur.

We want to be sure all of our students continue learning during the transition to remote instruction. Eighth grade Green Team students should log in to their morning meeting on Google meet at 8:10 am (block 1) on the days they would typically be scheduled to learn in-person. The link to the meeting can be found in their Google classroom. Teachers will provide additional direction and support.

Anyone experiencing COVID symptoms should stay at home and immediately contact their health care provider. Symptoms include: fever, chills, congestion, runny nose, loss of taste or smell, nausea, diarrhea, vomiting, headache or body aches. Anyone with questions or concerns about COVID-19 can also contact the Oswego County Health Department COVID Hotline at 315-349-3330.

Please be sure you are taking precautions to prevent the spread of COVID-19 by staying home when you are sick, wearing a face covering, maintaining at least six feet of physical distance and washing your hands or using hand sanitizer frequently.
We thank our entire school community for their diligence and support.

Sincerely,
Brian T. Pulvino
