State Police investigate fatal motorcycle crash in Town of Schroeppel

Fulton, NY – On Wednesday at 1:45 p.m., troopers from the NYS Police Barracks in Fulton responded to the area of 1121 County Route 57 in the Town of Schroeppel for a serious personal injury collision involving a Ford F350 pickup truck and a motorcycle.

The investigation at the scene determined that a northbound motorcycle (2009 Honda Goldwing), operated by Douglas M. West, 08/12/54, of Baldwinsville, attempted to pass a northbound pickup truck (2010 Ford F350), operated by Rory G. Ingoldby, 12/24/68, of Phoenix.

The Ford F350 was turning left into the business parking lot of Superior Autoplex, when the motorcyclist pulled out into the southbound lane in an attempt to pass the pickup on the left, within a no passing zone.

The motorcycle struck the left front fender/left front wheel of the pickup truck, lost control and slid into the ditch off the west side of the roadway.

The motorcyclist and motorcycle then struck the ditch culvert before coming to rest within a second driveway of Superior Autoplex.

Mr. West was transported to Upstate University Medical Center where he succumbed to his injuries later in the evening.

The cause of the crash was due to unsafe passing and unsafe speed, according to troopers.

Mr. Ingoldby was ticketed for failing to secure a 4-year-old child within his vehicle in a proper child seat restraint.

The NYSP were assisted at the scene by the Oswego County Sheriff’s Department and the Phoenix Fire Department. missing or outdated ad config
