Strong Winter Storm Hitting Oswego County This Weekend

Snowstorm totals as of Noon Saturday:

As of mid-afternoon Saturday, heavy snow had already plunged most of the county into full winter mode.  Snows overnight and into the morning on Saturday left about a fresh foot of new snow in Fulton and similar amounts throughout the county.

And more’s on the way, as much as another foot of snow more.

From the National Weather Service:

Arctic air will bring lake effect snow south and southeast of the lakes tonight and Sunday. A storm strengthening off the east coast will bring brisks winds and wrap around snow across the entire region late tonight and Sunday. Low pressure strengthening off the east coast will continue to draw arctic air southward across our region. This will keep the lake effect machine running through Sunday southeast of the lakes. The low will then drift a little westward overnight and Sunday with a general snow across the region. The heaviest snow will still be southeast of the lakes. Strengthening winds Sunday coupled with low density snow will create blowing and drifting snow with poor visibilities and difficult driving conditions.

A lake effect snow warning remains in effect until 6 pm Sunday. Lake effect snow will continue through Sunday. The snow could be heavy at times. Expect an additional 3 to 5 inches tonight in the most persistent snows. Winds will strengthen late tonight and Sunday with 5 to 10 inches of new snow possible with considerable blowing and drifting snow. Wind chills will be zero to 10 below tonight and Sunday. Road conditions will deteriorate through Sunday.

In lake effect snow the weather can vary from locally heavy snow in narrow bands to clear skies just a few miles away. If you will be traveling across the region be prepared for rapid changes in road and visibility conditions.
