OSWEGO, NY – Are you a student who is planning on babysitting this summer?

Are you the parent of a potential babysitter?  Wouldn’t you feel more comfortable knowing that you have the skills and knowledge to be a good babysitter?

The Onondaga Oswego Chapter of the American Red Cross will be holding another Babysitter’s Training class on May 23 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The class will be held at the Oswego branch location at 333 W. First St. and is limited to 12 participants.

The Babysitter’s Training program provides youth age 11 – 15 with the leadership skills, the knowledge and the techniques required to provide child care in a safe and fun setting.

Participants will define leadership and identify role modeling, communication, motivation, taking action and decision making as important leadership skills.

Students learn the importance of safety including safe play as well as basic safety care issues.

An important part of this program is learning how to obtain safe and appropriate babysitting jobs.

Program participants learn how to use good business practices and work behaviors as well as how to learn to say no if a situation makes them uncomfortable.

This is the last class offering before summer vacation, so interested youth are encouraged to call to register early.

The next session will be offered in late June.
