Syracuse Man Accused of Sodomizing Child

HASTINGS, NY – A Syracuse man has been arrested for allegedly having anal intercourse with a child several times at a Hastings residence in 2001.

Mathew J. Angona, 23, of 300 Lodi St. Apt. 1, Syracuse, was arrested at 10:43 a.m., Thursday, and charged with first-degree sodomy and first-degree sexual abuse, both felonies, after an investigation into an incident that reportedly occurred in 2001 in the town of Hastings.

Police said Angona allegedly had anal intercourse with an individual less than 11 years of age multiple times.

Angona was arraigned before Hon. Judge Myers in the Town of Hastings and remanded to the Oswego County Correctional Facility in lieu of $10,000 cash or $20,000 bond. He is slated to return to court Monday.

During the arresting process, Angona allegedly assaulted an officer by shoving him in the chest, resulting in the additional charges of second-degree menacing, resisting arrest and second-degree harassment.
