FULTON – The city of Fulton’s celebration of the total solar eclipse will provide a fun afternoon for families, built around a view that won’t return for centuries. The event, called Total Eclipse Of The Park, takes place from Noon to 4:30 p.m. Monday, April 8th at the Fulton War Memorial grounds at 609 W. Broadway. This event is a joint collaboration of the Fulton Special Events Committee, the City of Fulton Parks and Recreation Department and the Fulton City School District.

Visitors will be able to enjoy free activities such as inflatable bounce houses and obstacle courses, a gaming truck, face painting, and more. Food truck options will be available for purchase as well as carnival snacks such as cotton candy, popcorn and lemonade. Entertainment will be provided throughout the event by Twin Towers Music, the G. Ray Bodley High School Jazz Band and Choir, and performances by local dance studios.

Glasses certified to be safe for viewing the eclipse will be given free to the first 500 attendees. The glasses were provided by Oswego County government. Fulton city school will dismiss early that day to allow students to observe the total eclipse, using certified glasses given to each student. The Special Events Committee will receive the support of several High School students who will assist at the event as volunteers.

“There won’t be another party in Fulton like this one for another 400 years, so come join us to see something special in the heavens above and have a special day with friends and family here on Earth. This is another example of the Special Events Committee working hard to create events and activities that improve the quality of life in our hometown,” said Chris Waldron, member of the Fulton Special Events Committee.

The eclipse will begin at 2:08 p.m., with totality – the brief moment when the moon fully obscures the sun – at 3:23 p.m., lasting for about 4 minutes. The eclipse will end at 4:34 p.m. No one should look at the eclipse without special, certified solar viewing glasses. In case of rain, the event will take place inside the War Memorial and ice rink buildings. People should dress for the weather that day and should consider wearing boots as the ground can still be soft and muddy.
