OSWEGO, NY – On Aug. 3, in cooperation with Oswego County Soil & Water Conservation District, Oswego County Environmental Management Council and SLELO PRISM (St. Lawrence Eastern Lake Ontario Partnerships for Regional Invasive Species Management) a group of volunteers from the Oswego Canoe/Kayak Club participated in the hand pulling of the invasive water chestnut at the historic canal and guard lock section near Battle Island on the Oswego River.

Where scattered clusters of the water chestnuts exist, hand pulling of the rosette and stem effectives retards the new growth chestnuts in those areas.
With hand pulling done for the past several years at other locations, very few or no chestnuts were found at those sites this year.
