Youth Snowmobile Safety Classes Planned

OSWEGO COUNTY, NY – Oswego County Sheriff Reuel A. Todd has announced that four Young Snowmobile Operator Safety Courses will be held in December.

New York State Law requires that youths ages 10 through 17 must successfully complete a two day Young Snowmobile Operator Safety Course and be in possession of a Safety Certificate before they can legally operate a snowmobile alone off their own property.

Four courses will be at the Oswego County Public Safety Center, 39 Churchill Road, Oswego as follows:

  • Dec. 1, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and Dec. 2 from noon to 4 p.m.
  • Dec. 8, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and Dec. 9 from noon to 4 p.m.
  • Dec. 15, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and Dec. 16 from noon to 4 p.m.
  • Dec. 22, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and Dec. 23 from noon to 4 p.m.

There is no charge for the training. A parent or guardian must accompany students to the classroom on the first day of the course to sign a parental permission form. Students must attend both days of their chosen training course to complete the program.

Pre-registration is required and class size will be strictly limited due to available space. Interested students can register by contacting Suzanne Fortier weekdays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at 349-3309.
