Get Ready for 2026 Election Day Nov. 3

OSWEGO COUNTY – Oswego County Board of Elections (BOE) reminds residents to be aware of some key deadlines this voting season.

Most importantly, election day is Tuesday, Nov. 3, and early voting runs from Oct. 24 through Nov. 1. Click on this early voting schedule for locations and hours.

Other dates include:

• 24: the last day an individual can register to vote
• 24: the last day a voter can request a mail-in ballot through the mail
• 30: the last day a voter can change their address
• 2: the last day a voter can request a mail-in ballot in person

New York State law requires that mail-in ballots must be postmarked by election day and received by the local BOE office within seven days of election day to be valid and counted.

To avoid any delays which could put a voter’s ballot at risk of being ruled invalid, the United States Postal Service (USPS) suggests that voters mail their ballots as early as possible. The federal agency recommends sending them at least one week before election day to ensure it is postmarked before that date and received by the local BOE office in time to be counted.

Oswego County BOE also urges mail-in voters to return their ballots well before the Nov. 3 deadline. To ensure their ballot is dated correctly, voters may want to consider taking it directly to a post office and requesting a manual postmark at the counter that day, rather than depositing it in a public collection box or their private mailbox.
