Hastings Man Dies In Industrial Accident At National Grid Facility In Clay

TOWN OF CLAY, NY – The Onondaga County Sheriff’s Office has identified the victim in yesterday’s industrial accident that occurred at the National Grid facility in the Town of Clay, as Benjamin Springer of Hastings, New York.

Yesterday, November 5 , approximately 11:19 a.m., Onondaga County Sheriff’s deputies along with rescue personnel responded to the National Grid facility located at 7437 Henry Clay Blvd. for a reported industrial accident.

Deputies investigating the accident report that an employee of C&S Companies, a company sub-contracted by National Grid, was assisting with loading steel support beams onto a flatbed trailer when the load shifted, causing the steel beams to fall off the trailer and onto the employee.

The employee, identified as Benjamin Springer (25) of Hastings, suffered a traumatic injury and was pronounced deceased at the scene by paramedics.

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration was notified and deputies continue to investigate the accident.
