Heat Advisory For Oswego County From 11 A.M. To 8 P.M. Today

UPDATE: The Heat Advisory has ended.

OSWEGO COUNTY – The National Weather Service has issued a Heat Advisory for Monroe, Wayne, Northern Cayuga, Oswego, Genesee, Livingston, and Ontario counties beginning today at 11 a.m. and ending at 8 p.m.

The NWS expects heat index values of 95 to 99 degrees. Hot temperatures and high humidity may cause heat illnesses to occur.

The NWS advises people to prepare in the following ways:

  • Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors.
  • Young children and pets should never be left unattended in vehicles under any circumstances.
  • Take extra precautions if you work or spend time outside. When possible reschedule strenuous activities to early morning or evening.
  • Know the signs and symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke.
  • Wear lightweight and loose fitting clothing when possible.
  • To reduce risk during outdoor work, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration recommends scheduling frequent rest breaks in shaded or air conditioned environments.
  • Anyone overcome by heat should be moved to a cool and shaded location. Heat stroke is an emergency! Call 9 1 1.

The NWS forecast (Oswego County Airport, Fulton) for today and tomorrow:

  • Today: Partly sunny, with a high near 88. Southwest wind 13 to 15 mph.
  • Tonight: A chance of showers, mainly after 2am. Partly cloudy, with a low around 71. Southwest wind 7 to 11 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible.
  • Monday: A chance of showers, with thunderstorms also possible after 9am. Partly sunny, with a high near 84. Southwest wind 8 to 10 mph becoming west in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.
  • Monday Night: A chance of showers and thunderstorms. Partly cloudy, with a low around 67. Southwest wind around 5 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.
