Heat Advisory For Oswego County In Effect From 11 A.M. To 8 P.M. Today

OSWEGO COUNTY – The National Weather Service has issued a Heat Advisory for today, Monday, June 28, from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. for Monroe, Wayne, Northern Cayuga, Oswego, Lewis, Livingston, and Ontario counties.

There was a Heat Advisory yesterday as well.

The NWS expects heat index values of 95 to 99 degrees. Hot temperatures and high humidity may cause heat illnesses to occur.

The NWS advises people to prepare in the following ways:

  • Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors.
  • Young children and pets should never be left unattended in vehicles under any circumstances.
  • Take extra precautions if you work or spend time outside. When possible reschedule strenuous activities to early morning or evening.
  • Know the signs and symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke.
  • Wear lightweight and loose fitting clothing when possible.
  • To reduce risk during outdoor work, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration recommends scheduling frequent rest breaks in shaded or air conditioned environments.
  • Anyone overcome by heat should be moved to a cool and shaded location. Heat stroke is an emergency! Call 9 1 1.

The NWS forecast (Oswego County Airport, Fulton) for today and tomorrow is as follows:
Today: A slight chance of showers and thunderstorms after 2 p.m. Mostly sunny, with a high near 81. West wind 8 to 11 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%.
Tonight: Partly cloudy, with a low around 68. Southwest wind 3 to 5 mph.
Tuesday: A chance of showers and thunderstorms. Mostly sunny, with a high near 81. Light west wind. Chance of precipitation is 40%. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.
Tuesday Night: Showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 68. Light and variable wind becoming south 6 to 11 mph after midnight. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.
