I-81 Resurfacing To Occur In Onondaga, Oswego Counties

OSWEGO COUNTY – The New York State Department of Transportation is alerting motorists of pavement rehabilitation work on Interstate 81 in Central New York.

The paving project will encompass both north and south bound lanes from just north of State Route 31 in the Town of Cicero to just south of State Route 49 in the Town of Hastings.

The entire project covers 6.3 miles of highway for a total of 37.75 lane miles.

Pavement joints will be reconstructed before the entire road is milled and paved and all on/off ramps within the project limits will be addressed.

Drivers should expect daily and overnight weekday lane closures that extend for several miles, with only one lane available in each direction.  Some weekend work should be anticipated as well. Work is expected to be completed by the end of November.

Motorists are reminded to Move Over a lane, if safely possible, or slow down significantly whenever encountering roadside vehicles displaying red, white, blue, amber or green lights, including maintenance and construction vehicles in work zones.

Motorists are urged to slow down and drive responsibly in work zones. Fines are doubled for speeding in a work zone.  Convictions of two or more speeding violations in a work zone could result in the suspension of an individual’s driver license.
