Katko Announces Distribution Of $15.5 Million In CARES Act Funds For CNY Hospitals

SYRACUSE, NY — U.S. Rep. John Katko (NY-24) announced $15.5 million in funding from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) for Auburn Community Hospital, Newark-Wayne Community Hospital, and Oswego Health.

These funds, available through the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act, provide direct relief to rural hospitals in Central New, which have faced significant hardship amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Today, I am pleased to announce that $15.5 million in federal funds will be distributed to Auburn Community Hospital, Newark-Wayne Community Hospital, and Oswego Health. This funding will prove essential in supporting our rural hospitals as they respond to the COVID-19 pandemic,” said Rep. Katko. “Despite this funding, our hospitals continue to face significant financial challenges, largely due to canceled elective surgeries and healthy patients continuing to delay care. In the coming days, I will continue to urge HHS to provide rural hospitals throughout our region with the funding and resources they need to continue to serve our communities and employ thousands of Central New Yorkers.”
