Literacy Coalition of Oswego County Launches Facebook Page Contest

The Literacy Coalition of Oswego County (LCOC) has created its own Facebook® page and has launched a contest for visitors to win gift cards, it was announced by Jon Spaulding, president of the LCOC Leadership Council.

The page, which was created by Jennifer Cook, LCOC member and aide to Assemblyman Will Barclay, can be accessed at: www.facebook.com/LiteracyCoalitionOfOswegoCounty or type “Literacy Coalition of Oswego County” in the search box.

“The first 500 “likes” on our page will be entered to win two $50 gift cards from the river’s end bookstore,” Spaulding said. “We are grateful to riversend Owner Bill Reilly for donating one of the cards.

“To support our efforts to get to 500-plus “likes”, free ads and ad space have been donated by ThePalladiumTimes.com and OswegoCountyToday.com.

“It is our hope that by launching this page, we’ll gain greater visibility and support for our mission: 100% literacy through 100% community engagement. Several members of the LCOC leadership council have volunteered to assist in administering the page and keep it updated with information on resources, services and special events in which LCOC is involved.”

The LCOC is a growing coalition of more than 36 local organizations.

These organizations work together to address the literacy needs of people of all ages.

Members of the LCOC Leadership Council include: Alliance Bank; Assemblyman William Barclay 124th District; Cayuga Community College; Chirello Advertising, City of Fulton; City of Oswego; Constellation Energy; Cornell Cooperative Extension of Oswego County; Eastern Shore Associates; Entergy Nuclear Northeast; Fulton City School District; Fulton Family YMCA; Greater Oswego-Fulton Chamber of Commerce; Literacy Volunteers of Oswego County; Operation Oswego County; Central Southern Tier Regional Adult Education Network.

Many are unable to total an entry on a deposit slip, locate the time and place on a meeting form, or identify a piece of specific information in a brief news article (ProLiteracy Worldwide).

In Oswego County, close to 17,000 adults cannot read above a fifth grade reading level. With the help of volunteers, donors and advocates, the Literacy Coalition of Oswego County helps adults develop their basic literary skills.
