MEXICO – The Town and Village of Mexico want to hear from residents about how to support and protect agricultural activities and farmland in the Mexico community. The information gathered will help shape the vision and goals for the Town and Village of Mexico Agriculture and Farmland Protection Plan.
Community members can click here to go to the survey, which takes approximately 10 minutes to complete. The survey will close on Monday, March 24.
“Our community’s agricultural roots and history are core to our identity and future as a Town and Village,” said Committee Member Marcia DeLong. “The launch of the community survey is a crucial step in developing our Agriculture and Farmland Protection Plan. We encourage everyone to participate in the survey to ensure that our plan reflects the needs and aspirations of all residents. We look forward to connecting with farmers in the next phase of engagement.”
The Town and Village of Mexico began to develop an Agriculture and Farmland Protection Plan through a grant from the New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets’ Municipal Farmland Protection Plan program. The project is being led by the Town and Village with guidance from a volunteer advisory committee. Technical assistance in the planning process is provided by a consultant team led by Community Planning and Environmental Associates.
The Town and Village are also working to develop a new Comprehensive Plan. The Agricultural and Farmland Protection Plan will, when completed, be adopted as an addendum to that Plan. Together these plans will provide a roadmap for the community and offer goals, strategies and actions needed to achieve Mexico’s vision. The Town and Village will be guided by these plans when making development decisions that will address the current and future needs of the area.
“Public outreach and engagement are key components of the project and fundamental to the implementation and success of the plan,” added DeLong. “We hope everyone will take 10 minutes to fill out the agriculture survey. Please visit www.mexicony.org and scroll down to the survey to share your thoughts and ideas.”
