OSWEGO COUNTY – The Oswego County Highway Department provided snow removal assistance to the City of Oswego following a lake effect snow event that brought multiple feet of snow to the city.

“While snow amounts vary by location, some parts of the City of Oswego received up to three feet of snow during yesterday’s lake effect snowstorm,” said Oswego County Legislator Stephen M. Walpole, District 14, chairman of the Infrastructure, Facilities and Technology Committee. “To help ensure safe conditions for residents and lessen the strain on the City’s resources, our County Highway Department is assisting with clearing snow from roadways and moving heavy snow.”

Oswego County Highway Superintendent Shawn Walker added, “We’re happy to help the City of Oswego dig out from yesterday’s storm. We have snowblowers out on the east and west sides of the city today clearing snow on the north and south ends of state route 104. Snowblowers are cutting down high snowbanks and loading into our 10-wheeler dump trucks to haul the snow away. We were also out plowing parts of state routes 104 and 481 yesterday to help keep the roads open and in safe condition.”

New York State Department of Transportation (DOT) provided the four snowblowers that the Oswego County Highway Department is using to clear snow today within the City of Oswego.

The heavy accumulations from Thursday’s lake effect snowstorm come in addition to snowfall amounts from the widespread storm that hit Oswego County earlier in the week.

“This week’s severe winter weather has created a higher demand for manpower and resources to maintain roadways throughout the entire county,” added Walpole. “Despite these challenges, the Oswego County Highway Department still stepped up to support a municipality in need. Our crews are dedicated to keeping our roads safe for residents, and we commend them for their hard work.”
