Oswego County Legislature Holds Annual Elections

WEATHERUP UNANIMOUSLY WINS VOTE FOR CHAIRMAN – Legislator James Weatherup, District 9, was re-elected chairman of the Oswego County Legislature at the Jan. 7. organizational meeting. He was sworn in by Oswego County Court Judge Armen Nazarian. Chairman Weatherup represents parts of the towns of Hastings and Palermo and has served as chairman since 2019.

OSWEGO COUNTY – The Oswego County Legislature re-elected its chairman, vice-chairman, and clerk at its 2025 organizational meeting on Jan. 7.

WEATHERUP UNANIMOUSLY WINS VOTE FOR CHAIRMAN – Legislator James Weatherup, District 9, was re-elected chairman of the Oswego County Legislature at the Jan. 7. organizational meeting. He was sworn in by Oswego County Court Judge Armen Nazarian. Chairman Weatherup represents parts of the towns of Hastings and Palermo and has served as chairman since 2019.

First elected as chairman in 2019, James Weatherup has been a member of the Legislature since 2014. He represents District 9, which encompasses the village of Central Square as well as sections of the towns of Hastings and Palermo. He has held leadership positions on numerous legislative committees, previously serving as chairman of the Legislature’s Finance and Personnel Committee. He was also the majority leader of the legislature in 2018. Prior to becoming a county legislator, Weatherup served as Hastings Town Supervisor and a member of its town board.

LEGISLATURE RE-ELECTS VICE CHAIRMAN – Legislator Marc Greco, District 24, was re-elected vice chairman of the Oswego County Legislature at the body’s organizational meeting on Jan. 7. Greco joined the legislature in 2020 and served as vice chairman since 2023. Oswego County Court Judge Armen Nazarian administered the oath of office. Pictured from left with Hon. Legislator Marc Greco, District 24, joined the legislature in 2020 and has served as vice chairman since 2023. He represents portions of the towns of Granby, Minetto, Oswego and the city of Fulton. Greco has served as chairman of the Legislature’s Public Safety Committee and is on the Legislature’s Health Committee as well.

SAUNDERS CONTINUES AS CLERK OF THE LEGISLATURE – The Oswego County Legislature unanimously re-elected Betsy Saunders as clerk of the legislature on Jan. 7. Betsy Saunders has worked for the Oswego County Legislature for more than 10 years, first becoming clerk of the legislature in 2021 after serving as deputy clerk since 2011.

Oswego County Court Judge Armen Nazarian administered the oaths of office.

Chairman Weatherup announced that Legislator John J. Martino, District 6, was named as the new majority leader by the Republican caucus, while Legislator Mary Ellen Chesbro, District 10, would once again serve as the majority whip.

He also reported that the Democratic caucus re-named Legislator Frank Castiglia Jr., District 25, as minority leader and Legislator Marie C. Schadt, District 19, as minority whip.

The Legislature’s next regular meeting is scheduled for 2 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 13 in the Legislative Chambers of the Oswego County Office Building, 46 E. Bridge St., Oswego.
