Oswego County Sheriffs Dispatched Hastings Fatal Motor Vehicle Accident

On July 9th, 2025, at around 7:33 PM, members of the Oswego County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to a single-vehicle motor vehicle accident on State Route 49, west of Canterbury Way, in the Town of Hastings.

Preliminary investigation revealed that a 2011 Chrysler minivan was traveling west on State Route 49 when the operator lost control of the vehicle, causing it to travel north off the roadway, overturn and strike a utility pole. The twenty-three-year-old female operator of the vehicle was evaluated by medical staff at the scene and released. Two passengers were involved in the accident and transported to Upstate Medical University Hospital from the scene. The front passenger, a nineteen-year-old female, was admitted and in stable condition. The rear passenger, a two-year-old boy, was transported and later pronounced deceased at the hospital.

The Oswego County Sheriff’s Office was assisted on scene by the New York State Police, Central Square Police Department, Menter’s Ambulance, Central Square Volunteer Fire Department, and Top Gun towing.

The incident is still under investigation and more information will be released.
