2013 Oswego “Rock the Locks” Paddlefest Changes Course

OSWEGO – The Oswego “Rock the Locks” Paddlefest Committee decided Friday, June 28, to move the paddling event to the Oswego Harbor for the safety of the paddlers.

“Due to flood warnings, debris in the river and strong currents from recent storms, we decided to move the event to the Oswego Harbor,” said Jackie Sheffield, associate director of the Oswego YMCA. “We are asking paddlers to meet at Wright’s Landing in Oswego instead of paddling through the locks.”

Sheffield added, “We apologize for any inconvenience that this has created and will discount 2014 Oswego “Rock the Locks” Paddlefest registrations by 50 percent for those who have already registered for this year’s course.”

In addition, the committee has arranged to waive launch fees at Wright’s Landing for paddlers.

Event staff will be at the marina from 8 to 10 a.m. on Saturday 29 to hand out registration packets.

The “D” bus will be available to shuttle paddlers between Wright’s Landing and Lock 7.

The festival portion of the event will carry on as scheduled.

Bring the kids down to Lock 7 in Oswego to enjoy live music, food, vendors and family fun from noon to 4 p.m.

Food coupons issued in registration packets will still be valid and the kayak drawing will take place at 2:30 p.m. at the festival.
