Arrest Made In Oswego Cemetery Burglary Probe

OSWEGO, NY – The Oswego City Police Department has been investigating several burglaries which have occurred at St. Peter’s Cemetery, located at 379 East River Road.

The incidents have occurred over the last several months, beginning in April of 2011, resulting in the theft of several power tools and various pieces of lawn and grounds keeping equipment.

Today (July 1), acting on information obtained during the course of the investigations, members of the Criminal Investigations Division located and interviewed David J. Spedding, 19, of 2220 County Route 8, Oswego.

Spedding was subsequently arrested and charged with Burglary in the Third Degree, a class D Felony, Grand Larceny in the Fourth
Degree, a class E Felony, and Criminal Mischief in the Fourth Degree, a class A Misdemeanor, all stemming from a May 4 incident.

According to police, Spedding admitted to committing a total of three burglaries at St. Peter’s Cemetery, as well as a separate Criminal Mischief, for which further charges are pending.

At the time of this press release, Spedding was being held awaiting arraignment in Oswego City Court.
