Barboni, 31, formerly of Falcon Drive, Liverpool, was convicted early last month of second-degree murder, a class A felony, and first-degree manslaughter, a class B felony.

He was sentenced to 20 years in prison and 5 years of post release supervision on the manslaughter charge.

The court also ordered him to pay restitution of $3,045 for the funeral expenses.

Barboni showed no emotion as Oswego County Court Judge Walter Hafner imposed sentence.

A jury deliberated about six hours over two days before convicting Barboni of causing the death of 15-month-old Nicholas Taylor.

The infant died Aug. 18, 2008.

He was the son of Barboni’s girlfriend, Dawn Taylor.

Assistant District Attorney Greg Oakes read a letter from Taylor prior to sentencing this morning. She urged the judge to impose the maximum sentence.

Barboni’s attorney, Amy Hollenbeck, had no comment following today’s sentencing.

Speaking with Oswego County Today outside the courthouse after the August trial, Taylor said the verdict doesn’t actually bring closure.

“I feel better that he was found guilty of those charges, but … it’s not going to bring (Nicholas) back,” she said.

The child died as a result of “severe head” trauma last August while Barboni was watching him, according to court documents. missing or outdated ad config
