Barclay: ReCharge New York Benefits Region

Assemblyman Will Barclay said he was pleased to learn that Agrana Fruit US Inc., Byrne Dairy, and Ultra Dairy LLC will receive low-cost electricity through the state’s ReCharge New York Program.

ReCharge New York was part of the 2011-12 enacted budget.

Assemblyman Barclay supported ReCharge New York to replace Power for Jobs in the Assembly, and in the past, Barclay has been critical of the high cost of energy in New York.

ReCharge New York required the New York Power Authority to make a certain amount of low-cost electricity available to businesses throughout the state.

“I’m pleased our region will directly benefit from ReCharge New York. This type of program has real potential to keep and create jobs and I’m glad to know low-cost energy is being made available to businesses in our region,” said Barclay. “Many struggle with the cost of doing business and having this assistance hopefully means more jobs will stay in the area.”

The latest announcement will support 3,191 jobs throughout the state – 450 of which are newly created.

Since last July, the low-cost power has been awarded to 710 businesses and 72 non-profits have benefited from the program, according to the NYPA’s website.

Businesses can apply for inclusion in ReCharge New York through the NYPA web site at http://www.nypa.gov/rechargeny/

The New York State Economic Development Power Allocation Board reviews applications and makes recommendations to NYPA for the discounted power.

Job creators are given preference.

The program was designed to assist manufacturers, agricultural producers as well as some residents. missing or outdated ad config
