Catholic Schools Week Starts Sunday

OSWEGO, NY – Sunday marks the start of Catholic Schools Week.

Mayor Randy Bateman has proclaimed Jan. 31 through Feb. 6 as Catholic Schools Week in Oswego.

Trinity, Oswego County’s sole Catholic school, is located at 115 E. Fifth St., in Oswego.

It has several events lined up for next week.

The week is a celebration of Catholic education and its role in preparing our young people for a life of love and service to their families, their communities and the Lord, according to Dave Friedlander, Trinity’s principal.

The celebration gets under way at 10:45 a.m. Sunday with a special Mass at St. Mary’s Church. The Trinity Catholic School breakfast will follow in Hopkins Hall.

Monday’s activities include a 9:15 a.m. prayer service in Trinity’s gym for grades Pre-K through 6 with Father Baccaro and a first grade classroom visit with Father Morisette.

School Spirit Day is set for Tuesday. Students can dress out in school colors for a donation to the Catholic Relief Services for Haiti.

Wednesday’s highlight is likely to be the volleyball game pitting the school’s faculty and staff against the sixth graders. It gets started at 2:30 p.m. in the school gym.

From 6:15 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, you can get attend the sneak peek open house and visit the classrooms and meet the teachers.

Joe Trionfero will present his Show of Love for Pre-K through grade 6 at 9:30 a.m. Thursday in the school gym.

Students in K-6 will take part in the seventh annual Trinity Catholic “Millionaire Game” at 2 p.m. Friday in the school gym.

The week winds up Saturday with sledding at the school from 1 to 3 p.m.
