Chamber To Host Holiday Tree Lighting

OSWEGO, NY – With the holiday season fast approaching plans are under way for the annual Holiday Tree Lighting.

Coordinated by the Greater Oswego-Fulton Chamber of Commerce, the Oswego Children’s Holiday Tree Lighting will be held Nov. 29.

Ceremonies will begin at 5 p.m. with the tree lighting at 6 p.m.

The city tree, which has been donated by the Chris Chetney family of East Ninth Street in Oswego, will be erected and decorated by the City of Oswego DPW and Traffic departments.

The theme for this year’s tree is ‘Holiday Traditions.’

Local school children in grades K-3 will be making bright decorations to add to the tree.

In addition students in grades 4-6 will be writing Christmas poems.

The winners in each grade will read their poems during the ceremony.

Other groups wishing to contribute decorations to the city tree should contact the chamber office at 343-7681 for more information.

The evening will include entertainment from the Snowbelter’s Chorus, a Nativity scene, and a lighting of the Menorah by Banna Rubinow.

Following the tree lighting ceremony, Santa Claus will be in City Hall to greet children of all ages and hear their holiday wishes.

Light refreshments will be served by the Lions Club.
