City Of Oswego 2020 Independence Day Fireworks Scheduled For Tonight

OSWEGO – The City of Oswego will be setting off its annual Independence Day fireworks tonight, July 5, beginning at 9:45 p.m.

Every year the city holds a parade and fireworks show the Sunday following the 4th of July, however the COVID-19 pandemic has changed the city’s ability to do so this year. Although the parade was cancelled this year, in an effort to allow for social distancing the fireworks, the city has changed its normal procedure in regards to the fireworks show.

Tonight, fireworks will be launched from the railroad pedestrian bridge and the show will be able to seen from multiple spots, but spectators are asked to remain in their vehicles if possible, wear face coverings and social distance.

“Launching fireworks from the pedestrian bridge allow for viewing areas all along both riverwalks (north and south of the launching area) and several downtown parking lots so spectators can stay in vehicles,” Mayor Billy Barlow said in a Facebook post today.

Utica Street Bridge will be closed to allow for social distancing.

Free parking to view the show includes, but is not limited to the following areas:

  • Street parking where available
  • St. Joseph’s Church lot
  • Former YMCA lot on West First Street
  • Water Street lot, south of Bridge
  • Water Street lot, near Veteran’s Park
