OSWEGO – The City of Oswego Fire Department will be receiving $12,984 in funding through the State Homeland Security Grant Program in collaboration with Oswego County. This funding will provide the Fire Department with 4 sets of protective rescue diving gear. With the Fire Department having this equipment, it will enhance their Technical Rescue Capabilities while also addressing the New York State Critical Capabilities, specifically Search and Rescue Operations.
The dive suits they will receive are fully encapsulated garments that protect staff from adverse and dangerously cold water temperatures as well as against exposure to contaminated water that divers often find themselves operating in. This funding also allows for the offset of costs to provide training and certification to more candidates to join the City of Oswego Dive Team.
Additionally, these funds provide our City of Oswego Dive Team with increased ability to assist within our city, and also to collaboratively support the Oswego County Dive Team. This multi-level, interoperability is vital to the overall health and well-being of our residents and the visitors of the City of Oswego and Oswego County and will improve the overall incident response and resource management during times of crisis.
“I am always happy to see improvements within our departments, especially when it improves our crisis response. You hope to never encounter these situations, but it is a reality that they occur. I commend our Fire Department leadership for ensuring full preparedness when every second counts”, said Mayor Corradino.
