Committee Paves The Way for Movies in the Park

OSWEGO, NY – Oswego is going to the movies, thanks to Oswego County Federal Credit Union.

At its meeting Monday night the Physical Services Committee approved a request by William Carhart, CEO of the credit union, to use East Park to host a series of “Movies in the Park” during the summer months.

The movies will be family movies.

The dates they are requesting are June 19 with a rain date of June 20, July 17 with a rain date of July 18, and August 14 with a rain date of August 15.

“I think this is a very nice use of our parks,” said committee chair Mike Myers. “I’ll definitely support this. I think this is a great thing they’re doing.”

“I support this whole-heartedly,” said Councilor Fran Enwright, who added he would like Carhart to consider doing something like this in his ward as well.

In other business:

Councilor Eric VanBuren requested use public space, specifically, 9 Burkle St. (parking lot), on behalf of Jackie Christian, cub master for Cub Scout Pack 888.

They’d like to use it for a fundraiser distribution event, on May 7 from 5 to 7:30 p.m., he explained. They are having an event through Oliver Pine Greenhouse, selling hanging plants.

Donna Wilcox, on behalf of the Maggie Sue Glenister Wilcox family, requested permission to place signs in Oswego city parks to make the community aware of the deadly Eastern Equine Encephalitis virus.

It’s the same as she did last year, Councilor VanBuren told the committee.

“I think she’s doing a great job raising awareness about EEE,” he said.

A request for a landfill permit was submitted by Circle T Motorsports LLC, in order to landfill approximately 3.5% of property they own at 300 E. Albany St.

All of the requests were forwarded to the full council for consideration. missing or outdated ad config
