Committee Paves The Way For Puckfest 2012

OSWEGO, NY – Puckfest is coming to Oswego next year.

Michael Smith, DPW commissioner, received a request from Greg Hausman, tournament director for Puckfest Hockey Tournaments, asking to hold an event at the Crisafulli Skating Rink the weekend of March 2, 3 and 4, 2012.

Hausman is “very interested in using our facility for a major tournament,” Smith told the Physical Services Committee this week. “We had a little back and forth and settled on the March date.”

For a first-time tournament, Hausman said, they’d like to plan on 12 teams. That would translate into about 27 game slots (of 75 minutes each) starting on a Friday and running through Sunday.

The company is based in St. Louis, Mo., but organizes events all over the country.

Councilor Connie Cosemento, committee chair, directed the commissioner to find out whether alcohol would be served at the event prior to submitting the final resolution to the full council.

Smith also received a request from Laurie Sheridan regarding her desire to have the city of Oswego accept the donation of a park bench to be placed in Breitbeck Park in memory of her son, Kevin Sheridan.

She will coordinate with Commissioner Smith as to the exact location for the bench to be placed.

Tony Leotta, city engineer, requested use of public space, on behalf of Brookfield Renewable Power, Varick Hydroelectric Development.

They want to install public safety signage in the city parking area on the east side of the river (East First Street, State Route 481) directly below Lock 0-7.

The committee gave a favorable recommendation to both requests. missing or outdated ad config
